Vocational Programmes

Juvenile Clients:

  • Breakfast Cookery and Baking: Competency-based certification offered in partnership with HEART/NSTA Trust. The course equips learners with the skills to produce breakfast items and baked goods to industry standards.
  • Auto Mechanics: Delivered under the Heart Trust NTA – Jamaican- German Automotive School (JAGAS) curriculum.
  • Food Preparation and Management: Taught by civilian instructors guided by the CSEC curriculum.

Adult Clients:

  • Tailoring: Focuses on classic tailoring techniques and garment construction.
  • Welding: Provides training in professional welding techniques. Products are showcased annually at the DCS Expo.
  • Barbering: Covers grooming services, including haircutting, shaving, scalp care, and hygiene standards. Emphasis is placed on workplace readiness and customer service.
  • Woods Technology: Trains clients in constructing various wood and furniture pieces. Items are displayed and sold at the DCS Expo.
  • General Construction: Offers theoretical and practical skills in foundational construction.
  • Data Entry: Competency-based certification with HEART/NSTA Trust. Teaches data input and digital management.
  • Sanitation: Focuses on implementing hygiene standards in public spaces.
  • Wall and Floor Tiling: Trains clients to install various tile types both vertically and horizontally.
  • Breakfast Cookery and Baking: Repeated course as above, offered for adult clients.
  • Crop Production and Management: Competency-based training in sustainable crop farming techniques.
  • Cosmetology: Comprehensive training in beauty care, including hair styling, skincare, nail technology, and makeup application.
  • Driver’s Education: Prepares clients to safely operate a motor vehicle upon release.
  • Agriculture: Training and certification in agriculture, livestock care, modern farming techniques and agri-business. Since 2024, more than 700 inmates have been trained in agriculture, livestock care, and agro-processing.
  • Landscaping: Covers landscape design, maintenance, and plant care.
  • Radio Production: Prepares clients for careers in broadcasting.
  • Screen Printing: Teaches design preparation, stencil creation, ink application, and equipment handling.
  •  Entrepreneurship: Offered through HEART/NSTA Trust. Empowers clients to start and manage their own businesses.

Extracurricular Activities

  • 4-H Club: Operates an agro-processing project teaching entrepreneurial skills. Participants compete in the annual 4-H competition.
  • Reading Club
  • Art, Drama, and Music

Highlight: An inmate from Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre won a gold medal in the 2025 JCDC Speech Parish Finals for Kingston and St. Andrew.
