Reintegration Support & Services

Reintegration Support

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is committed to facilitating the successful reintegration of ex-offenders into society. Through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, we provide comprehensive post-care support to address the diverse needs of those transitioning from correctional facilities.

Rehabilitation Grant

The DCS offers a Rehabilitation Grant to empower ex-offenders to rebuild their lives. This grant enables recipients to establish small businesses for financial independence or to pursue further education or vocational training.

For Queries:

Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health extends critical support to ex-offenders through its Psychiatric Clinics, providing treatment for mental health conditions. Additionally, the National Council on Drug Abuse offers post-care services for individuals recovering from drug addiction or managing substance abuse challenges.

HEART/NSTA Trust

The HEART/NSTA Trust delivers education and vocational training opportunities to ex-offenders. This includes support for those continuing vocational programmes initiated during their incarceration or exploring new training options unavailable within correctional institutions.

Poor Relief Department

The Poor Relief Department, a division of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, provides essential supplies and resources to individuals upon their release. This assistance significantly eases the reintegration process, ensuring a smoother transition to independence.

Housing Assistance – Food for the Poor

DCS collaborates with Food for the Poor to provide permanent housing solutions for ex-offenders requiring suitable living arrangements. Welfare Case Managers and Probation Aftercare Officers guide individuals through the necessary processes, ensuring timely and effective outcomes.

For temporary housing, the Marie Atkins Night Shelter offers safe accommodations upon release. Arrangements are facilitated by Rehabilitation Managers and Welfare Case Managers to address immediate housing needs.
