DCS Approach to Rehabilitation and Reintegration

Rehabilitation is a fundamental pillar of the DCS’ mission. It ensures that individuals in custody—whether adults or juvenile wards—are given structured opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and positive behaviour change.

To this end, the DCS delivers a broad range of programmes across correctional institutions, including:

  • Academic education (literacy, numeracy, CSEC subjects)
  • Vocational training (e.g., carpentry, agriculture, garment production)
  • Counselling and life skills
  • Religious and spiritual development
  • Recreational and sports activities

These programmes equip offenders with the tools to function independently and responsibly, both during and after incarceration.
