Aftercare

Aftercare (Release)
The DCS recognises that rehabilitation does not end with release. Reintegration into society is a critical phase, and as such, the Department provides post-release support to help ex-offenders transition successfully.

Key reintegration initiatives include:

Rehabilitation Grant

This grant is made available to eligible ex-offenders and may be used to:

  • Start a small business
  • Pursue further education
  • Undertake vocational training

The aim is to support financial independence and reduce the likelihood of reoffending.

Community Linkages and Partnerships

The DCS works collaboratively with NGOs, community organisations, educational institutions, and the private sector to offer opportunities in:

  • Job placement
  • Housing assistance
  • Psychological counselling
  • Skills upgrading

By placing rehabilitation and reintegration at the heart of correctional services, the DCS fosters lasting change in the lives of offenders. This approach not only helps to restore dignity and purpose to individuals but also contributes significantly to the building of a safer, more just Jamaica.
