Community Engagement
At the Carl Rattray Staff College, we understand that our work does not exist in isolation. As a government training facility for correctional staff, our mission extends beyond our institution and into the very communities we serve. Engaging with the public, building relationships, and fostering collaboration are not just added benefits, they are essential to creating a stronger, more effective correctional system. Community engagement helps us build trust and transparency. The correctional system can often feel distant or misunderstood by the public, but by working closely with community groups, educators, and social organizations, we bridge that gap. Through partnerships, we help foster a better understanding of our role and the positive impact of effective training in corrections.
Engaging with our community also allows us to give back. Whether through educational workshops, or collaborative initiatives with schools and organizations, we reinforce our commitment to building a society that values rehabilitation, justice, and second chances. The CRSC is home to the Runaway Bay Community Development Committee (CDC), which utilizes our facility as their meeting place every last Thursday of each month, we are highly requested by the school community to participate in Career Day activities and we also share a close relationship with the JCF, JDF, Parish Court, Jamaica Fire Brigade, Cardiff Hotel and Spa among other stakeholders within the parish inclusive of the Office of the Custos Rotulorum.
At the Carl Rattray Staff College, we believe that a strong correctional system depends on strong community ties. By working together, we are able to enhance public safety, support rehabilitation, and ensure that correctional staff are not just enforcers of rules but agents of positive change.
