The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is one of the three arms of the Ministry of National Security, alongside the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The Commissioner of Corrections serves as the head of entity, overseeing the correctional programmes on behalf of the Government of Jamaica and reporting to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security.
The DCS operates under a robust legal framework, which mandates its responsibility to supervise, secure, rehabilitate, and reintegrate offenders. This framework is supported by both national legislation and international conventions and treaties to which Jamaica is a signatory. The organization also adheres to a suite of acts and regulations designed to uphold its mission.

The DCS tagline, “To Serve and to Guide,” underscores its dedication to contributing to a secure, safe, and just society, through prioritising the rehabilitation and reintegration of offender clients, with active support from the community.
The DCS operates 10 correctional and remand centres across five parishes. This includes seven (7) adult facilities and three (3) juvenile institutions, as well as the Howard Pre-release Hostel. The DCS also administers 16 probation offices island wide.
